Tips for Using the Return to Sport & Discharge Checklists
I think one of the things I don't do often enough in rehab, especially long term rehab like ACL reconstructions, is revisit the discharge testing checklist.
I do it at the beginning. I'll do it pre-operatively to talk about it. I'll do it post-operatively and describe the steps. But I don't do as good a job revisiting it, and that's so important because you can show the person their progress because long term rehab can be discouraging and when you can see objective progress along the way, that's important.
It also allows the person to know what's next, what they have to focus on, and how important their exercise is and doing things on their own is. So if I were to give you one tip, I would say be sure to revisit the discharge testing checklists with your patients often throughout the entire rehab process.
